Stefanie Busch (installation/objects) and
Lage Opedal (painting)

Landscape and memory are the dominating motifs in Stefanie Busch‘s paintings. In her anonymous landscape paintings she attempts to tease the memory of the spectators. Accordingly, she called her diploma, a mixed-media work composed of screen print, film and light, “Erinnerung geschönt” (i.e."sugar-coated memory"). In a synthesis of film aesthetics, photography and painting, the artist usually presents her work in light boxes. For the exhibition "Profiler" in 2003, she applied this approach to a diaphanous, illuminated work on transparency in one of the gallery’s windows. The window suggested the topic of reflection which Stefanie Busch staged by means of a montage of transparencies that reflected the opposite façade. Since in turn the façade’s windows depicted a virtual landscape, she provoked the recipients' memory.
Stefanie Busch's works at the exhibition "Reviere" – "Territories" show hills and forests, formations of high mountain as final quotations of seemingly untouched natural habitats. In these works, affinities to romantic representations aim at our perceptions fed on our memories. We perceive a photographic sketch that only at second glance turns out to be not a photograph, but a screen print composed of many transparent hues of grey. Only now does the rugged landscape appear as the sum of lightly abstracted details and sharp cuts.
There will be an edition on the occasion of the exhibition.
